By means of real-time PCR (qPCR), general, taxonomic and functional markers of microorganisms that cause induced corrosion are quantified: total bacteria, total archaea, sulfate-reducing bacteria, methanogenic archaea, and nitrate-reducing bacteria. This methodology quantifies microorganisms regardless of whether they are alive, dead or inactive. Calibration curves, internal standards, and negative controls are run in parallel. Fields of application: petrochemical and chemical industry in general.
